IO Furniture to Reward Young Interior Designers

IO Furniture, Nigerian interior design and furniture manufacturing company, said it is giving budding designers, the opportunity to showcase their talent through its new CSR initiative “The Innovation Award”.

The Innovation Award, according to the company, was aimed at promoting the raw, untapped talent of the youth today through a competition that requires them showcasing their creativity in furniture and interior design.

The company said in a statement that the award would inspire and motivate the youth in the design industry and show them the endless possibilities of design and manufacturing in Nigeria.

The chief executive officer, IO Furniture, Mrs. Munira Shonibare ?said: “We believe that this is the time for the youth, the time for their voices to be heard and their talents seen. We cannot wait for the world to promote us, we must do it ourselves and by so doing, we create a ripple effect of empowerment so each aspiring designer knows that there is a light at the end of the tunnel forcing them to aim higher."

While the competition focuses on furniture design, the entrants are at liberty to create any piece of furniture from coffee tables, to desk chairs to meeting room furniture to a media console, etc.; as long as it can be used in either commercial or residential spaces and it creates a solution to an existing problem.

With over 25 years of excellence under their belt, IO Furniture does not compromise on quality and they urge the entrants not to either. They are excited to see how the entrants will create designs that show the marriage of functionality, practicality, innovation and style without neglecting aesthetics. Entrants must use their designs to solve existing design problems in homes or offices, such as storage constraints. As an environmentally conscious brand they believe that the future is in the hands of the youth and they must be taught to be caretakers of the environment through innovative design.

IO Furniture has selected the judges of the competition; they wanted a team that consisted of an apt mix of experts and users. They have appointed Arc. Tayo Babalakin, the President of the Association of Consulting Architects Nigeria (ACAN) whose years of experience in the field will make his opinion concise and objective.
The company said applications starts on Friday, May 1 and closes on Friday 29th May 2015.
